When nature sets the mood…
Glorious Prairie summer!
I was clicking through the pictures on my laptop today, and this beautiful prairie photo from the middle of glorious summer made me marvel at the things that we take for granted in the moment, but are so impactful when we reflect back on them. Seeing this Purple Prairie Clover makes me thankful that native prairie restoration exists. Photo credit: James Andersland
Herbal illustrations from the 17th century

These illustrations are from The Complete Herbal, which Nicholas Culpeper, M.D., wrote in 1653! He was both an herbalist and a medical doctor with additional interests in botany and astrology. This book is one of many Culpeper authored, and has been published numerous times; the illustrations I’m posting are from the 1850 edition. It’s fascinating to think about someone in the 17th century publishing such an extensive herbal encyclopedia. While reading some biographical information about Culpeper, I learned that his grandmother was his first instructor of herbal knowledge.
